For  continuers who have at least done 1 term of the beginners class.

Firing and materials fee $40 cash first session. This covers slip used for Bunchoeng.

Thursdays 6:30 – 9:00  6 x 2.5 hr sessions

Teacher: Ingrid Russell. 

This term we will further our exploration of handbuilding larger objects using coils and slabs. Participants are free to create their own vision in clay. We will use terracotta clay and/or white earthenware. In addition we will explore the Korean technique of Bunchoeng.

This term we will further our exploration of handbuilding larger objects using coils and slabs. Participants are free to create their own vision in clay. We will use terracotta or brown clay or white earthenware. In addition we will explore the Korean technique of Bunchoeng (Optional) 

Buncheong is a Korean pottery technique that uses a variety of decorative methods, including:

Inlay: Carving patterns or images into the clay and filling them with different materials

Stamping: Using wood block stamps to create patterns on the clay

Sgraffito: Etching designs into the clay after covering it with white slip 

Brushwork: Applying white slip by hand or dipping the piece into a tray of slip

Materials List:

  • Bag of terracotta clay or dark brown clay or white earthenware (Can be supplied for $30 email to order)
  • Basic tool set, including a rubber rib and a serrated rib.
  • 200mm x 200mm piece of timber to set work on
  • a large fan brush or 1″ goats hair brush
  • Toothbrush
  • Spray bottle
  • 2 medium sized plastic garbage bags.
