Hand building, project based class. This term we will use terracotta clay (or clay of your choice) to make  a garden totem. We will use a variety of handbuilding techniques and decorations.

$30 cash glaze and firing fee to be paid on first session

Thursdays 6:30pm – 9:00 6 x 2.5 hr sessions 

No session on 1st Thurs of each month.

Hand building for beginners and continuers. Project based class. This term we will use terracotta clay to make a wall hanging out of handmade tiles. We will use an additive and subtractive method.

Optional: Order a basic tool kit and clay for  $50 cash on first session, or clay only $30, by emailing [email protected].

Please note there will be no session on the first Thursday of the month.

We will be using terracotta clay which is available from Artsup in Kingswood where you can also purchase a basic set of tools.

Materials List:

  • A bag of Terracotta clay – only bring a quarter of the bag each session)
  • A set of basic tools including:
  • needle tool, wooden sculpting tool, rubber kidney, metal serrated kidney, metal smooth kidney, feathering tool, small sponge, clay cutting wire
  • Also bring: small sharp knife, scalpel (Exacto knife), toothbrush, apron, some kitchen tidy bags, permanent marker, small jar with tight lid , towel
  • 1 inch (3 cm) goats hair brush – soft for glazing
  • #10 hogs bristle paint brush – just a cheap one
  • a few cheap watercolour brushes in different sizes including a small fan brush
  • A set of basic carving tools.

You are welcome to use the centre’s basic set of glazes which is covered by the $30 glaze and firing fee, but if you want some specific colour or effect you will need to purchase your own. Make sure you get earthenware glazes.
