$30 cash glaze and firing fee to be paid on first session

Thursdays 1:30 – 3:30  8 x 2hr sessions

Teacher: Ingrid Russell. 

Hand building, project based class. This term we will make and build with coloured clays. We will use a variety of handbuilding techniques as we experiment with different ways to use coloured clays. This is a Japanese technique called Nerikomi.

Optional: Order a basic tool kit and clay for  $50 cash on first session, or clay only $30, by emailing [email protected].

Please note there will be no session on the first Thursday of the month.

We will be using Blackwattle Polar White earthenware clay which is available from Artsup in Kingswood where you can also purchase a basic set of tools.

Materials List:

  • A bag of Blackwattle Polar White earthenware clay or similar
  • A set of basic tools including:
  • needle tool, wooden sculpting tool, rubber kidney, metal serrated kidney, metal smooth kidney, feathering tool, small sponge, clay cutting wire
  • Also bring: small sharp knife, scalpel (Exacto knife), toothbrush, apron, some kitchen tidy bags, permanent marker, small jar with tight lid , towel
  • 1 inch (3 cm) goats hair brush – soft for glazing
  • 2 sheets of canvas with a close weave 45 x 30 cm or thereabouts
  • spray bottle (fine)
  • straight edge piece of timber 45cm long and about 6-10cm wide
  • some newspaper 
  • thicknessing bars 5mm and 3mm (2 of each)

You are welcome to use the centre’s basic set of mason stains which is covered by the $30 glaze and firing fee, but if you want some specific colour you will need to purchase your own mason stains.
